What the Fox ESS modular battery offers

Modular battery storage that grows with your home

The Fox ESS CQ7 integrates with your solar system to store the power your panels generate during the day. It releases that power in the evening, overnight, and during grid outages. Each 7.02 kWh module stacks onto the tower, so you start with what you need now and add capacity later as your usage changes, your family grows, or you add an electric vehicle.

Each module contributes 7.02 kWh of usable storage. Stack between two and fourteen modules in a single floor-standing tower, from 14.04 kWh up to 98.28 kWh. That range covers a modest home running a 14 kWh system all the way to a near-off-grid household at the top end. You only buy what you need, and adding more later is a clean job.

The CQ7 uses Lithium Iron Phosphate chemistry. LFP is the safest commercially available option for home installation. LFP cells do not undergo thermal runaway, the chain reaction behind battery fires. It is also the chemistry best suited to daily cycling in Australia's heat, and the reason the CQ7 carries a 12-year warranty.

The CQ7 operates at up to 806.4V at full configuration. Higher voltage means lower current for the same power output, which reduces heat generation and minimises conversion losses. Round-trip efficiency is verified above 95%, and the 90% depth of discharge means a 14 kWh system gives you roughly 12.6 kWh to actually use.

When paired with a compatible Fox ESS hybrid inverter and configured with Emergency Power Supply (EPS) functionality, the CQ7 keeps selected circuits running during a grid outage. The switchover is fast enough that most sensitive appliances and devices will not register the interruption.

The CQ7 uses natural convection cooling with no fans. It runs completely silently. That makes it practical for a garage, laundry, or any space where noise matters. Fewer moving parts also means fewer things to fail over a 12-year lifespan.

The Fox ESS app and FoxCloud platform give you real-time visibility of solar generation, battery state of charge, home consumption, and grid import and export. You can programme charge and discharge schedules to align with your tariff, including off-peak overnight charging if that suits your plan.

Safety and suitability

Built for western Sydney conditions

Western Sydney summers are hard on equipment. Temperatures in suburbs like Wetherill Park, Blacktown and Penrith regularly push into the high 30s and above 40 degrees during heatwaves. The Fox ESS CQ7 is rated and tested for these conditions.

LFP chemistry

Lithium Iron Phosphate cells are thermally stable. They handle repeated charge and discharge cycles in high ambient temperatures without the degradation or safety risks of older lithium-ion chemistries.

IP65 rated

IP65 means dust-tight and protected against water jets. The battery can be installed in a garage, carport, on an external wall, or in a utility room. A sheltered location is recommended to extend housing life.

95%+ round-trip efficiency

At high voltage, the battery loses less energy as heat during each charge and discharge cycle. Over daily cycling across 10 years, that efficiency difference compounds into real savings.

Whole-home backup ready

When configured with EPS functionality, the system switches to battery power within milliseconds of a grid outage. Essential circuits stay on. You identify which circuits are backed up during the design stage.

12-year warranty

The CQ7 carries a 12-year product and performance warranty, the longest in the Fox ESS Australian range. The performance guarantee covers a minimum 70% capacity retention at end of warranty period.

CEC approved

All Fox ESS modular battery models we install are listed with the Clean Energy Council. CEC approval is a requirement for the federal battery rebate and for grid connection in NSW.

Why installers and homeowners choose Fox ESS

A strong performer at a competitive price point

Fox ESS is a subsidiary of Tsingshan Group, one of the world’s largest nickel producers. That supply chain advantage gives Fox ESS direct access to battery cell materials, which is a key reason their products deliver near-premium specifications without the near-premium price tag. They reached Forbes Global Unicorn status in 2023 and BloombergNEF Tier 1 manufacturer status in Q4 2024. They have shipped close to 100,000 batteries worldwide.

The federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program is still in place, and the CQ7 is fully eligible. Since May 2026, the rebate uses a tiered structure: the first 14 kWh of usable capacity attracts the full rate of around $244 per kWh. For most western Sydney households, a 14 kWh CQ7 configuration sits precisely at the full rebate threshold and covers typical evening energy needs comfortably. That is a two-module stack, which also leaves room to expand later.

Best for new solar installations

If you are adding solar and a battery together, a Fox ESS hybrid inverter and modular battery stack is a clean, single-ecosystem solution. The inverter and battery are designed to work together, which simplifies commissioning and long-term support.

Best for retrofitting an existing system

If you already have solar and want to add battery storage, we assess your current inverter first. Fox ESS batteries require a compatible Fox ESS hybrid inverter. In many cases a hybrid inverter upgrade makes sense alongside the battery. We will tell you honestly if it does not.

Best for households with growing energy needs

If you expect your usage to increase, whether from a growing family, an EV purchase, or plans to electrify more of your home, the modular design means you can add capacity without replacing the system. Start with what you need now and expand later.

Federal rebate

Cheaper Home Batteries Program

The federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program launched in July 2025 and is still running. The discount is applied upfront to your invoice by your accredited installer. You do not claim it separately or fill out government forms. Fox ESS modular batteries are fully eligible under the scheme.

From 1 May 2026, the rebate moved to a tiered structure. The rate is now around $244 per kWh of usable capacity, applied as follows:

First 14 kWh

Full rate (~$244/kWh). This is the sweet spot for most households.

15 to 28 kWh

60% of the full rate. Reduced incentive for mid-range systems.

29 to 50 kWh

15% of the full rate. Substantially reduced for larger systems.

For most western Sydney households, a 10 to 14 kWh Fox ESS configuration covers typical evening energy needs and captures the maximum rebate return under the current structure. Sizing to that range is good sense, not a compromise.

In NSW, the federal rebate stacks with the state Virtual Power Plant incentive under the Peak Demand Reduction Scheme. From 1 July 2026, that incentive was expanded to cover batteries up to 50 kWh, though the payment is still calculated on the first 28 kWh of usable capacity made available to the grid. The amount varies by VPP provider and contract.

The rebate steps down every six months until 2030, so the incentive is worth more now than it will be later. The federal program has been funded to $7.2 billion, so it is not going away. Rayiss Electrical & Solar is a fully accredited installer and handles all rebate paperwork on your behalf.
